On the pitch

House Rules

  1. 1.

The ball will continue to be played live off all rebound surfaces.

  2. 2.

The ball may travel above the height of the boards during play. If the ball hits the back net, possession will be awarded to the goalkeeper of the defending team to continue play. If the ball travels over the pitch net, the ball will be awarded to the goalkeeper of the opposing team (the team that did not kick it out) to resume play. The referee will determine whether the ball made contact with the net or fully passed over it.

  3. 3.

When the goalkeeper is in possession of the ball, they may only release it underarm. Kicking from the hands or overarm throws are not permitted. The ball must be released using an underarm motion only.

  4. 4.

When the ball travels to one of the corners of the pitch, the nearest player will be given 1 metre clearance from all defenders to play it out. Defenders may remain goal-side but must allow the ball to be played out. If the referee determines that a player is using the corner proximity rule to deliberately delay the game, a free kick will be awarded, and the referee may also issue a yellow card at their discretion.

  5. 5.

All tackling infractions are measured against player safety in a cage football environment. Contacting the ball first is not a consideration when resulting contact brings player safety into question. Any player who uses physical contact to force an opponent into the rebound board will concede a free kick, and the referee may also issue a yellow card at their discretion. Referees may determine that an offence surrounding the boards is worthy of a red card with no warning.

  6. 6.

Any dissent, abuse, or violent conduct towards officials, opposition, spectators, or Wanderers FIVES staff will be met with a red card.

  7. 7.

Red cards carry an immediate 1 match ban. Any subsequent red card within a season will carry a 3-match ban. Any player receiving 3 red cards in a 12-month period will be banned from Wanderers FIVES for a period of 12 months, including venue hire and facility use outside of competitions.

  8. 8.

Wanderers FIVES is an all-weather facility. Matches will go ahead in all conditions, with additional breaks given around extreme heat and uniform considerations around cold/rain.

  9. 9.

In the event of lightning, matches in the first half of play will be delayed for 30 minutes. If matches cannot be resumed, they will be re-scheduled.

  10. 10.

Matches in the second half of play interrupted by lightning will have the match result stand from the moment play was halted.

Competitions

Five-a-Side Comp Rules

  1. 1.

Each team may field 12 players per scheduled fixture. 5 players may take the field during play, including a designated goalkeeper.

  2. 2.

Each team must have a minimum of two female players in their squad. Teams must have a minimum of two female players on the field at all times, including the goalkeeper. Therefore, a maximum of three male players may be on the field at any one time. If a team is unable to field two female players at the start of the match, the game will be forfeited. When a female player is substituted during the match, they must be replaced by another female player to maintain the minimum requirement of two female players on the field. If a team has only two female players available and one becomes injured during the match and is unable to continue, the team may continue playing with one female player without the game being classified as a forfeit. The injured female player cannot be replaced by a male player, and the team may not have more than three male players on the field. A female player may play in any position, including goalkeeper, and the goalkeeper counts towards the minimum requirement of two female players on the field.

  3. 3.

Substitutions are unlimited throughout play and require a stoppage of play and invitation from the referee to enter the field of play. Players may not enter the field during live play.

  4. 4.

A team cannot commence play with fewer than 3 players.

  5. 5.

A team may change their nominated goalkeeper once per half during a stoppage of play and with approval of the referee. Teams may not change goalkeeper in the final 5 minutes of the second half barring injury.

  6. 6.

It is recommended all players wear shin guards to take the field of play.

  7. 7.

Play will commence with the referee's whistle. All defenders must be 2 metres from the ball and within their own half. Attacking team members must be behind the ball. The ball may be played in any direction and can be played directly on goal.

  8. 8.

On any free kick or restart of play, defenders must be outside 2m from the spot the ball will be played from. Any player who receives a red card during a match will be removed from the game and may not return. However, the team may substitute another player to maintain a 5v5 format.

  9. 9.

A goal can be scored from anywhere on the field, besides inside the goalkeeper's circle.

  10. 10.

No outfield player may enter the keeper's circle. A player is deemed to have entered the keeper's circle if they contact the playing surface within the circle. If the entry does not interfere with play, play will continue. If an attacking player enters the keeper's circle and interferes with play, a free kick will be awarded to the defending team from the point where the player crossed the line. If a defending player enters the keeper's circle and interferes with play, a penalty will be awarded to the attacking team.

  11. 11.

Slide tackles are not permitted. Any defender leaving their feet will result in a free kick for the attacking team. If the knee of the trail leg touches the ground, it will be classified as a slide tackle.

  12. 12.

Defenders must stand two metres from the spot where a free kick is awarded. If the free kick is awarded within two metres of the keeper's circle, the free kick will be moved back to allow for a two-metre wall.

  13. 13.

All free kicks are considered “direct”.

  14. 14.

Penalty kicks must be taken without a run-up. The player must have their non-kicking foot planted beside the ball before and during the kick.

  15. 15.

Attacking players will have 5 seconds to place and address the ball on free kicks. They may “play on” from a ball that is not moving, subject to approval from the referee.

  16. 16.

Any ball that finishes behind the goal during play will be played out as a free kick from within the keeper's circle.

  17. 17.

In the Men's Competition, the goalkeeper may participate as an active attacking player but may only receive the ball once within the goalkeeper's circle during their team's possession. Any subsequent pass from a teammate must be received outside the goalkeeper's circle, or a penalty will be awarded. This one-pass restriction does not apply to the Women's or Mixed Competitions. In all Men's, Women's and Mixed Competitions, the goalkeeper may not handle the ball when it is deliberately played back to them by a teammate with the feet. However, the goalkeeper may handle the ball when it is deliberately played back using the head or any other legal part of the body, in accordance with the Laws of the Game.

  18. 18.

Upon gaining possession within the goalkeeper's circle, the goalkeeper has five seconds to return the ball to play. The ball may only be released using an underarm motion.

  19. 19.

Competitions will be determined by the following – 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 awarded for a loss. Teams will be assessed for ladder standings on total points earned, followed by goal difference, followed by total goals and finally aggregate for games played head-to-head.

  20. 20.

Each competition will have dedicated formats outlined at the start of each competition.

  21. 21.

All teams will pay the season game fees in advance to have their team registration accepted. Refunds or a credit will be applied if a competition is unable to go ahead due to a lack of teams entering the competition. In the event of a forfeit or a bye, teams will be given the option to utilise a field.
